Why use Twitter to advance Hospice Palliative Care?

A short but interesting interview with Diane Meir, palliative care geriatrician.  Diane addresses how and why she uses twitter to increase the literacy of the public about hospice palliative care, and increases the awareness of the “choir” with current information and resources.

Through twitter I discover fascinating articles, keep my fingers on the pulse of Hospice Palliative Care, and make some interesting connections.

Regarding use of twitter during conferences and workshops… We are starting to realize the benefits of people tweeting out the themes of a conference presentation so people who are not in attendance can gain from the conference, and so that people at the conference can connect with others.

Example, I just found the twitter feed for the Montreal International Congress. One tweet reads: RT @VirtualHospice: Chochinov – Ask your patients, “What do I need to know about you to take the best care of you?” What a great question.  Simple. Succinct. Helpful. Valuable.  Insightful.

In addition to networking and sharing of ideas, there may also be value for those who are able to pay more attention when they are texting and tweeting than when they are expected to sit motionless.

What are your thoughts about the value of tweeting?  Do you tweet?

By the way, my Twitter handle is: @LDMatters
