Susan lives with the joy that comes from appreciating life in the moment.
In the summer you will find her hanging off cliffs, and swimming, hiking and biking. In the winter she’ll be at the rock climbing gym or the crossfit gym. Her most recent achievements are climbing the Stawamus Chief in B.C. and standing at the top of Ancient Art in Utah.
She is deeply connected to her adult children and their partners and loves to cook and entertain for her extended family and friends.
In 1998, after the death of her infant son, she was hired at Victoria Hospice as a counselor where she has learned so much from the dying, working hand in hand with a nurse to provide emotional, spiritual and physical relief from suffering.
She has carried a private counseling practice in the community for the past 25 years, where she worked with individuals facing transitions, anxiety and depression.
She studied intercultural communication before launching www.onehospice.com - an organization that encourages and supports Canadian hospices to twin with other palliative care providers across the globe. She has been creating and teaching courses for the past 20 years and figures that it’s finally time to formally learn how to do it. She is currently attending the University of Victoria in the Education faculty in curriculum and instruction. This will be an especially challenging feat as she fiercely protects her afternoon nap time. |
