I am a registered clinical counsellor (RCC) and have been a social worker (RSW) and counsellor for over 20 years. Over the years I have worked in acute, long term care settings and community hospices and currently am in private practice specializing in loss, grief, bereavement, end of life care, persons with dementia and their caregivers/family.
My thesis for my M.Ed in counselling psychology was related to the unique grief journey of dementia caregivers. My recent work has focused on companioning caregivers, but I have plans to be more involved with persons with dementia.
From my home in Qualicum Beach, I love to beach comb, fish, camp and go somewhere warm in February! Two of my grandparents had dementia, and I learned so much about devoted and resilient caregiving from my maternal grandmother.
I am a believer in lifelong learning; my passion for my work gets rejuvenated by being involved in further education, whether taking courses or facilitating presentations/workshops etc. My approach is “I am not the expert”; I have some information and experience to share and the process of learning is reciprocal. |
